The extra-special origin of automotive excellence

Mercedes: A first name that made history

The story of Mercedes-Benz begins with a groundbreaking invention: In 1886, Carl Benz built the first practical automobile, while Gottlieb Daimler was simultaneously developing a high-speed engine. Though the two pioneers never met in person, each laid the foundation for what we now know as the modern automobile.

The name “Mercedes” was first used in 1901, inspired by the daughter of entrepreneur Emil Jellinek, who played a key role in marketing the brand. In 1926, the companies of Benz and Daimler merged to form Daimler-Benz AG, giving birth to the Mercedes-Benz name.

Since then, the three-pointed star has stood for innovation, quality, and luxury. From the legendary Silver Arrows of the 1930s to modern classics, Mercedes-Benz has consistently set benchmarks in automotive history.
